PURPOSE: To obtain the subject pulp for molding that is suitable for molding and dyeing without environmental pollution by hydrating cereal straw pulp that are cut to an even length in parallel with an alkali solution, extracting lignin by cooking it in an alkaline environment and removing it.
CONSTITUTION: Straws are arranged in parallel, cut into strips so that the blade may cross the straw in the longitudinal direction. Then, the strip straw arranged in parallel are further cut into pieces with a plate system and the piece-form straw is conveyed with an endless conveying belt to the bath tank equipped with a mixer. An aqueous 3.5 wt.% solution of sodium hydroxide is added to the bath tank and they are mixed at 80°C for 40 minutes to effect the hydration. Then, the straw and the resultant liquid are charged into the reactor to effect the cooking in the alkaline environment at 230°C under 2.8 bar pressure for 2 hours to extract lignin from the fiber, finally the fibers are washed to remove the remaining lignin and alkali whereby the objective pulp for molding in the form of short-cut hydrated cellulose fibers is obtained, that is suitable for molding and dyeing.
