To obtain a pulpy thermoplastic liquid crystal resin having thin fiber diameter, long fiber length, high powder holding property and excellent shape and useful as a reinforcing material for a heat-resistant composite material, etc., by crushing a specific thermoplastic liquid crystal resin under a specific condition.
A thermoplastic liquid crystal resin capable of forming an anisotropic melt phase, having 280-450°C flow beginning temperature and comprising structural units of formulae I to IV {X is (p,p')-biphenylene, etc.), and an amount of the structural unit of formula II is equal to total of the structural unit of formula III and the structural unit of formula IV, the amount of the structural unit of formula I is 50-80mol% of total of whole structural units, and an amount of the structural unit of formula III is 50-100mol% of total of the structural units of the formulae III and IV is previously dipped in an acidic aqueous solution or an alkaline aqueous solution for 5min-100hrs and crushed by a crusher to obtain a pulpy thermoplastic liquid crystal resin.
