Abstract:
PURPOSE:To provide the process for producing the pyrenequinone from commercially practicable pyrene by electrolytically oxidizing the pyrene in a suspended state, thereby producing the corresponding pyrenequinone. CONSTITUTION:The corresponding pyrenequinone is produced by electrolytic oxidation using an electrolyte suspended with the pyrene. The cathodic reaction of this electrolysis is utilized for the electrolytic reduction synthesis of another useful material. The electrolytic oxidation method consists typically of the oxidation of the pyrene by polyvalent metal ions by allowing these polyvalent metal ions to exist in an electrolyte and the reoxidation by the electrolysis of the polyvalent metal ions reduced at this time. The process for producing the pyrenequinone from the pyrene which can be industrially put into practicability is provided in this way.
