Abstract:
PURPOSE: To obtain the subject salt capable of reducing the use of a volatile alcoholic solvent as much as possible, reducing melting point thereof, having a softening property augmenting effect, and useful as the base material of softening agents, etc., by performing a reaction in the presence of a specific polyvalent alcohol.
CONSTITUTION: This method for producing a quaternary ammonium salt comprises reacting (A) a corresponding tertially amine with (B) a quaternizing agent in the presence of (C) a polyvalent alcohol ester of formula II [G is a residual group of removing all alcoholic CH groups from the raw material polyvalent alcohol; formula III, etc., are each a group binding with G-group at the C atom to which the OH group connected; A is a 2-4C alkylene, R is a 7-23C alkyl or alkenyl; m, n are each a mean of the added number of moles of alkylene oxide and are each 0-100; p, q and s are each 0 or more number] (preferably, the reaction product of a natural oil and fat, glycerol and an alkylene oxide) to obtain the objective salt of formula I [R1 is a 20-44C alkyl or an alkenyl; R2 to R4 are each a 1-5C alkyl or a hydroxyalkyl; (a) is 1-6; X- is an anion].
