Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain quinaldine which is convertible to a therapeutic agent for viral infections with HIV and other retroviruses by reaction of a succinimide ester derivative with asparagine (its salt) in an aqueous reaction medium at a neutral pH.
SOLUTION: A succinimide ester derivative of formula I [R1-R6 are each H, a halogen, a (halo) 1-3C alkyl, a hydroxy-1-3C alkyl, a 1-3C alkoxy, a 1-3C alkylthio, a 1-3C alkylthio-1-3C alkyl, nitro, trifluoromethyl] is allowed to react with asparagine or its salt in an aqueous reaction medium at a neutral pH, preferably at a pH of 6-8 whereby the objective quinaldine of formula II or its derivative is obtained.
