PURPOSE: To obtain a resin emulsion with optimum surface carboxyl group density and good dispersion stability, by emulsion polymerization, in the presence of divalent copper salt, peroxide-based initiator and reducing agent, between an acrylic acid derivative and a mixture of acrylic fluoroalkyl ester and comonomer.
CONSTITUTION: A polymerization is carried out of 40W100°C between (A) 0.1W20wt% of an acrylic acid derivative of formula I (R1 is H, lower alkyl or carboxyl; R2 is H or lower alkyl) and (B) 99.9W80wt% of a mixture of (i) 1W100wt% of an acrylic fluoroalkyl ester derivative and (ii) a radically copolymerizable vinyl monomer in an aqueous medium in the presence of (1) 0.001W1.0wt% of a divalent copper salt, (2) 0.01W1.0wt% of a peroxide-based initiator, (3) 1W80mol%, based on said initiator, of a reducing agent, thus obtaining the objective resin emulsion.
