To make it possible to form glass having a small thickness and high surface accuracy in forming of the sheet-like glass, such as substrates for magnetic recording medium.
The process for producing the sheet-like glass has a stage for preparing a die 10 which consists of an upper die 13 and a lower die 11 having forming surfaces and of which at least one forming surface 11a or 13a of the upper die or the lower die has a stage for preparing materials consisting of a component containing gold(Au), a supplying stage for supplying softened glass to the forming surface of the lower die, a pressing stage for pressing the glass by the forming surfaces of the upper die and the lower die in such a manner than the supplied glass attains a prescribed thickness and a taking-out stage for taking the pressed glass out of the die.
