To provide a method for producing an SiC-contg. Al alloymatrix composite material for a heat sink in which SiC powder, SiC short fibers or their mixed body are densely dispersed into an Al alloy matrix and having high density, high thermalconductivity and a low thermal expansion coefficient.
In such a manner that SiC powder, SiC short fibers or their mixed body is contained by 25 to 40 vol.%, and the balance Al alloy powder, blending and mixing are executed to produce an Al alloy-SiC powdery mixture, and this Al alloy-SiC powdery mixture is subjected to preliminary molding at 100 to 400°C under 30 to 300 MPa and is then subjected to liq. phase molding under 30 to 300 MPa while it is held to the temp. in the range from the liquidus temp. of the Al alloy to the liquidus temp. of the Al alloy +150°C.
