PURPOSE: To obtain the title compound soluble in silicone oil, having excellent water resistance and oil resistance and having ultraviolet ray absorbing characteristics of wavelength in UV-B region.
CONSTITUTION: A compound (e.g. 3,4,5-trimethoxy-cinnamic acid sodium salt) expressed by formula I (X is alkoxy; a is 2 or 3; M is Na or K) is reacted with a compound [e.g. 3-(3-chloropropyl)heptamethylsiloxane] expressed by formula II [R1 is 1-4C alkyl, phenyl or trimethylsiloxy; R2 is bivalent hydrocarbon (containing hydrocarbon having hetero atom O) having at least one carbon; n is 0-3], preferably in an aprotic solvent such as DMF at 120-130°C to provide the aimed compound {e.g. [3-bis(trimethylsiloxy)methylsilylpropyl] 3,4,5- trimethoxycinnamate} expressed by formula III.
