PURPOSE: To prevent failure of a lower punch for forming a projecting part and difficulty in flow of raw material powder into the die for forming the projecting part in the stage of forming a green compact having the projecting part of a small thickness by providing a waste part on the outside of the projecting part and forming wedge-shaped grooves at the boundary with the projecting part.

CONSTITUTION: Wedge-shaped projecting parts 15, 16 facing each other are formed to an upper punch 12 and a lower punch 14 for propping the end face of a thin projecting part 8. Raw material powder 3 is formed with edge-shaped grooves 17, 18 by the projections 15, 16 in the stage of molding the powder by compression. The part which faces the lower punch 14 and is on the right side of the grooves 17, 18 corresponds to the part for forming the projection 8 and the part on the left side is a waste part. Since the punch 14 is used to form the part for forming the projection and to form a waste part 19, the punch is made to have a substantial thickness and is thus prevented from failure in the stage of compaction. There is a substantially large space between a lower punch 13 and the inside wall on the left side of the die and therefore the inflow of the raw material powder is good and the substantial amt. thereof is packed into the die.
