PURPOSE: To produce a uniform long-sized sintered member by forming plural divided green compacts in place of a long-sized green compact, combining them and carrying out sintering.

CONSTITUTION: In a forming stage II, two divided green compacts 3a, 3b are formed in place of a long-sized green compact, the joining part of the lower compact 3a is projected 5 and the joining part of the upper compact 3b is recessed 6. In a partial sintering stage IIIa, only the compact 3a is sintered to produce a preform 3a'. In a combining and sintering stage IIIb, the compact 3b is connected with the preform 3a' by fixing the projection 5 into the recess 6, a weight 6 is placed on the compact 3b as required and sintering is carried out by heating to high temp. Since the compact 3b is diffused toward the preform 3a' through the joint 8 by shrinkage, a uniform long-sized sintered member can be produced.
