Abstract:
PURPOSE:To minimize the orientation energy of a ferroelectric liquid crystal and to form picture elements having high resolution and high density by separat ing an oriented film and a reflection layer on the lower side thereof by each picture element by using a resist. CONSTITUTION:Transparent electrodes 2, photoconductive layers (3 to 5) and the reflection layer 6 are formed on a glass substrate 1 and polyamic acid 6 is applied thereon. The adhesion to the reflection layer is previously increased by controlling the imidization rate at about 80 to 200 deg.C. the resist 14 is then applied in picture element units and the reflection layer 6 serving as a reflection surface is formed as micropicture elements by an etchant, etc., to constitute the structure having polyimide thin films 7 of high-polymer films for orienting the liquid crystal layer only on the micropicture elements of the reflection layer 6.
