Abstract:

PURPOSE: To produce a spherical resin useful as a filler for a packing column, sustained release preparation, etc., without using a surface active agent, by suspending a water-soluble high polymer compound in a viscous water-insoluble medium and treating the suspension with a crosslinking agent.

CONSTITUTION: A water-soluble high polymer compound (e.g. polyethyleneimine, dextran, agarose, etc.) optionally blended with a substance (e.g. KCl, ascorbic acid, glycerin, etc.) is suspended in a viscous water-insoluble medium (e.g., preferably liquid paraffin, triacetylene, etc., having 10W10,000 centistokes viscosity) and treated with a crosslinking agent (e.g. ethylene bromide, epichlorohydrin, ethylenediamine, etc.) to produce a spherical resin usually having 0.01μmW3cm diameter.
