PURPOSE: To provide an air false twist type method for production of a new spun yarn having a mild stiff touch in combination with a soft touch and excellent in strength and smoothness of the yarn surface.

CONSTITUTION: A staple fiber bundle 2 is allowed to pass through the first draft line 12 involving a pair of back rollers 3, a pair of middle rollers 5, a pair of front rollers 6, the first air jet nozzle 7, an opening tube 8 and the second air jet nozzle 9 arranged in order to spin the first single yarn. On the other hand, another staple fiber bundle 2 is allowed to pass through the second draft line 13 arranged parallelly to the first draft line 12 and involving the same kind units to spin the second single yarn. The air jet pressures of the first air jet nozzle 7 and the second air jet nozzle 9 in the first draft line 12 during the above-mentioned process are controlled to 1.3 to 2.0 times those in the second draft line 13. The first single yarn and the second single yarn are then doubled, wound and subsequently subjected to additional spinning to form a two fold yarn.
