PURPOSE: To reduce the thickness of a can material at a low cost by hot-rolling and cold-rolling a steel of specific composition to specific sheet thickness, applying recrystallization annealing to the resulting sheet, and then cold-rolling this sheet at specific percentage to specific sheet thickness.
CONSTITUTION: A steel, having a composition consisting of, by weight, ≤0.1% C, ≤0.05% P, ≤0.5% Mn, ≤0.5% Si, 0.005-0.5% Al, ≤0.01% N, and the balance Fe with inevitable impurities, is hot-rolled and cold-rolled to 0.5-1.4mm sheet thickness. After recrystallization annealing, cold rolling is applied at 60-85% to regulate sheet thickness to 0.075-0.21mm, and, after that, annealing is not applied. Further, either or both of Ti and Nb are incorporated so that the condition of C/12+N/14+S/32-<1.2(Ti/48+Nb/93) is satisfied. By this method, sheet passing property and productivity can be improved because of the large sheet thickness at the time of annealing.
