Abstract:

PURPOSE: To obtain a sticky polymer in a high yield without using a solvent by holding polymer agglomeration to a suitable dimension at a temp. higher than the softening point of a formed polymer in the presence of an inert granular material with a specified particle size in a fluidized bed reactor in the presence of a catalyst to polymerize a monomer.

CONSTITUTION: A Ziegler-Natta catalyst stored in a sump 16 sealed by argon gas is supplied to a fluidized bed reactor 10 consisting of a reaction zone 12 and a speed reducing zone 14 and about 0.3-80% (by wt. of a final product) of an inert granular material with an average particle size of about 0.01-10 μm is lowed to meet with a recirculating pipeline 22 from a container 31 through a pipeline 31a to be introduced into the reactor 10 and the tercopolymerization reaction of ethylene, propylene and diene is executed at a temp. higher than the softening temp. of a formed sticky polymer and polymer agglomeration of this sticky polymer are continuously polymerized while the sticky polymer is held to a suitable dimension to obtain the objective sticky polymer.
