Abstract:
PURPOSE: To produce a surface-coated hydrogen storage alloy powder excellent in collapse resistance.
CONSTITUTION: This surface-coated hydrogen storage alloy powder is produced as follows. Namely, ≥2wt.% of a high-toughness fine metal powder contg. oxygen is mixed with a relatively coarse hydrogen storage alloy powder in a specified ratio to cover the hydrogen storage alloy powder with the fine metal powder, the covered powder is fluidized and reduced to decrease the oxygen content of the metal powder to <2wt.%, and simultaneously the storage alloy powder is covered with the metal powder by utilizing the high adhesion produced in the course of reduction.
