Abstract:
PURPOSE: To produce high-quality trephthalic acid in such a way as to reduce loss amount of a solvent to the utmost in a method for producing terephthalic acid using a lower aliphatic monocarboxylic acid as the solvent.
CONSTITUTION: p-Xylene containing 3-35wt.% p-tolualdehyde and used as a raw material is subjected to liquid phase oxidation with a molecular oxygen- containing gas using a lower aliphatic monocarblxylic aid as a solvent at 120-240°C in the presence of a catalyst containing manganese, cobalt and bromine compounds each in an amount of 50-1,000ppm as manganese atom, 50-2,000ppm as cobalt atom and 100-4,000ppm as bromine atom.
