Abstract:
PURPOSE:To produce efficiently a thermal recording medium giving high image quality, excellent high-speed recordability and having a low glossiness, by providing an overcoat layer comprising a pigment and a binder as main constituents on a thermal recording layer comprising a color former and a color reaction agent, and feeding the resultant material through a pressing device comprising a specified surface-roughening roller and an elastic roller. CONSTITUTION:A thermal recording medium provided with an overcoat layer comprising a pigment and a binder as main constituents on a thermal recording layer which includes a color former and a color reaction agent capable of a color reaction with the color former upon being made in contact therewith is passed through a pressing device comprising a surface-roughening roller having a surface roughness of Rmax according to JIS B 0601 of 2-59mum and an elastic roller so that the overcoat layer is brought into contact with the surface-roughening roller, thereby producing a thermal recording material. It is desirable for the surface of the overcoat layer to be so treated so to have a Bekk smoothness of at least 150sec. Since the thermal recording medium having the overcoat layer is treated by the surface-roughening roller having the specified surface roughness, a thermal recording medium 1 giving high image quality, excellent high-speed recordability and the feeling of an ordinary paper with low glossiness can be produced extremely easily.
