PURPOSE: A specific ethylene-vinyl alcohol copolymer and polyester are subjected to conjugate spinning, drawn in a moist heat bath and shrinked by heat treatment under relay to produce heat-fusible conjugate fiber with low shrinkage.
CONSTITUTION: An ethylene-vinyl alcohol copolymer that has the vinyl acetate segment of more than 98mol% saponification degree and an ethylene molar content of 30W70%, and a polyethylene terephthalate polyester are extruded at 170W220°C and 270W310°C respectively into the nozzle pack for conjugate spinning heated at 280W300°C to form conjugate fiber so that the ethylene-vinyl alcohol copolymer covers at least a part of the fiber surface. Then, the resultant fiber is drawn in a moist heat bath of lower than 80°C and heat treated under relax in a moist heat bath whose temperature is higher than the former moist heat bath, ranging from 80W95°C.
