PURPOSE: To obtain the subject web having high bulkiness and excellent shape- retainability such as compression recovery by drawing and splitting a multi-layer film containing a specific resin layer, forming the split fibers into a web and welding the fibers by heating.

CONSTITUTION: The objective web can be produced by drawing and splitting a multi-layer film containing at least two layers of thermoplastic resins having different melting points, cutting the split fibers to form short fibers, forming in the form of a web and welding the fibers with heat. The resin layer is preferably a laminate of two high-melting/low-melting layers consisting of e.g. a combination of a crystalline polypropylene and a high-density polyethylene.
