Abstract:
PURPOSE: To easily obtain a thin org. polymer film having a uniform thickness and a smooth surface by depositing the film by electrolytic polymn. on the interface between an electrolysis soln. of an electrolytically polymerizable org. substance and a noncoductive liq. incompatible with the electrolysis soln.
CONSTITUTION: An electrolysis soln. 13 contg. an electrolytically polymerizable org. substance (e.g. pyrrole) and a noncondutive liq. 12 (e.g. heptane) incompatible with the electrolysis soln. are put into a constant-temp. electrolytic cell 10, forming an interface between the two liq. phases. At the interface is floated an anode 20 (e.g. a gold foil), of which one end is attached to a winder. At the side of the other end of the anode 20 and with a certain distance from the end is vertically installed a cathode 30 (e.g. a copper plate). Then, direct current is passed through the anode 20 and the cathode 30 to conduct electrolytic polymn. As a thin org. polymer film (e.g. a thin polypyrrole film) formed on the anode 20 grows along the interface, the thin film is wound, together with the anode 20, from the back end and taken out of the interface, thus allowing the top ends of the film to continuously grow along the interface.
