PURPOSE: To produce an Al can body having weld zones that do not recess from the surface of a base material by forming both side edges of a thin-walled Al sheet beforehand to the same side of the base material to form L-shaped rising edges, bringing the rising edges in abutment on each other to form butt parts on the outer side and welding said parts by fusion.

CONSTITUTION: Both side edges of a base material 10 consisting of Al or an Al alloy are bent symmetrically on the same side to form rising edges 2, 2 of an L shape in section, whereby the material 10 is formed to a can body 1. Here, the outer side surfaces of said edges 2, 2 are mated 3 to form butt parts 4 on the outer side of the body 1. The parts 4 as a substitute for filler metal are welded by fusion by using a method of AC TIG, DCSP TIG, plasma arc welding or the like without supplying any welding rod, whereby the joined parts 5 which do not recess from the right and left base material surfaces 10, 10 are formed.
