Abstract:

PURPOSE: To provide a method for preparing a thioether compd. which is efficient, safe and desirable from an environmental viewpoint.

CONSTITUTION: This thioether compd. represented by the formula, A-S-R is produced by a method comprising reacting (1) a compd. I represented by the formula, A-H (I) [wherein A is a carbon atom bonded to H and, herein, the carbon atom can be ionized in a nucleophilic state or is conjugated with the carbon atom] with (2) a compd. II represented by the formula, H-SR or RSSR (II) [wherein R is selected from (a) a substd. or unsubstd. aryl or alicyclic group being a carbocyclic or heterocyclic group and (b) a thiocarbonyl group] in the presence of a base and an oxidizing agent containing no reactive halogen and capable of oxidizing H-SR to RSSR.
