Abstract:

PURPOSE: To produce dense sintered parts of Ti-Al intermetallic compounds excellent in ductility and toughness only by ordinary powder metallurgical means in which sintering is executed in an ordinary vacuum or intert gas without using a HIP device.

CONSTITUTION: This is the method for producing a Ti-Al intermetallic compound sintered body constituted of a mixing stage in which powder stock constituted of titanium powder and Ti-Al3 powder are mixed into mixed powder, a compacting stage in which the mixed powder is compacted to form its shape into a prescribed one and into a green compact and a sintering stage in which the green compact is heated under no pressure, and intermetallic compounds essentially consisting of Ti-Al sereis or Ti3 Al series are subjected to sythetic sintering to form into a sintered body, and this method is also expressed by the one for producing a Ti-Al intermetallic compound base sintered body in which the powder of the borides of the IVa group, Va group, VIIa group and VIII group elements is added to the raw material and fine TiB3 grains are dispersed into the matrix.
