Abstract:

To obtain a new transition metal compound useful as a catalyst component for olefin polymerization, having high polymerization activity.

This compound is expressed by formula I [M is nickel, palladium, cobalt, rhodium or ruthenium; R1 to R3 are each H, a halogen, alkyl, aryl(oxy), aralkyl(oxy), alkoxy or cyano; (n) is 0-5; X and Y are each H, a halogen, alkyl, substituted silyl or the like], e.g. 2,2'-methylenebis[(4R)-4-phenyl-5,5- dimethyloxazoline]nickel dibromide. The compound of formula I is obtained by bringing a bisoxazoline compound expressed by formula II into contact with, a nickel, palladium, cobalt, rhodium or ruthenium compound in an inert organic solvent such as dichloromethane.
