PURPOSE: To provide a method for producing a tubular porous carbon body having excellent accuracy of true circle and true straight in good productivity by subjecting a formed raw material to burning and carbonization treatment without generating defect phenomenons of crack, breakage and deformation, etc., in a formed raw material.
CONSTITUTION: In a method for converting a tubular formed raw material to a porous carbon structure by subjecting a tubular formed raw material to burning and carbonization treatment in an non-oxidizing atmosphere, a rigid carbon shaft rod longer than length of the tubular formed raw material and having an outer diameter equal to an inner diameter after burning or slightly smaller than the inner diameter is inserted into the tubular formed raw material and the tubular formed raw material is subjected to burning carbonization treatment in vertically supported state. The rigid carbon shaft rod is preferably formed of a carbon material, a graphite material or a glasslike carbon material having ≥300kgf/cm2 flexural strength and 1000kgf/mm2 modulus of elasticity.
