Abstract:

PURPOSE: To reduce the man-hour for working of a product and to improve the yield thereof by dividing the space of a casting mold by means of heat insulating materials for partition and casting a molten metal into the mold in the state of communicating the bottom parts thereof with each other.

CONSTITUTION: A heat insulating material 3 is fixed to the inside surface of the casting mold 2 installed on a molding board 1 and the heat insulating materials 7 for partition which divide a steel ingot so as to meet the required weight of the ingot are fixed thereto. A space is provided between the materials 7 and the board 1. The molten steel is thereafter poured into the mold, then the bottom parts of the materials 7 are communicated with each other through the space between said materials and the board 1 and therefore the pouring of the molten metal is executed under the same conditions in the respective spaces of the mold, by which the unidirectionally solidified structure is obtd. Since the materials 7 are formed a material such as SiO2 having a good collapsing property, the man-hour for cutting the steel inhot after the solidification is reduced and the yield of the product is improved as a result of the decreased allowance for cutting.
