Abstract:
PURPOSE: To enhance purity by allowing V2O5 to react with carbon tetrachloride at a specified temp.
CONSTITUTION: A two stage reactor packed with V2O5 powder is used and carbon tetrachloride is slowly fed into the 1st reactor heated to 250-400°C. Gaseous phosgene and CO discharged by the reaction of the carbon tetrachloride with the V2O5 in the 1st reactor are introduced into the 2nd reactor heated to 250-400°C. The gases are allowed to react with the V2O5 in the 2nd reactor, the resulting discharge is captured in a cooled capturing bottle and high purity vanadium oxychloride (VOCl3) is obtd.
