PURPOSE: To improve running smoothness, wear resistance, and corrosion resistance, by providing a smooth layer, which consists of an organic high polymer including smooth corpuscles, on the reverse of the base film of a vapor-deposition magnetic tape.

CONSTITUTION: After or before vapor-deposition of a magnetic layer, the rear side of a polyester film substrate is treated by vacuum glow discharge or chemicals to make ≤70° contact angle of water. Next, a mixture consisting of smooth corpuscles of carbon black, graphite, molybdenum disulfide, calcium carbonate, talc, or the like and an organic high polymer such as vinyl chloride resin, polyamide resin, polyester resin, epoxy resin, urethane resin, silicone resin, and unsaturated polyester resin is applied to form a smooth layer.
