PURPOSE: To obtain water-absorbing resin particles excellent in water-absorbing capacity, gel strength, and water permeability by adding a hydrophilic organic solvent and a sol of an inorganic substance to water-absorbing resin particles with stirring and then drying the mixture.
CONSTITUTION: A hydrophilic organic solvent (e.g. 1,2-butanediol or diethylene glycol monomethyl ether) and a sol of an inorganic substance (e.g. colloidal silica) are added with stirring to particles of a water-absorbing resin (e.g. partially neutralized cross-linked poly(acrylic acid)). The mixture is dried to obtain the desired particles. Due to the use of the solvent, the sol can be homogeneously added to thereby attain improvements in water-absorbing capacity, gel strength at water absorption, and in water permeability. The particles are suited for use in sanitary goods, etc.
