To suitably produce a lube base oil by subjecting a feed material contg. a Fischer-Tropsch wax and a petroleum-based wax-contg. oil to hydrotreatment to give a series of hydrogenation products and recovering therefrom a wax-contg. product.
The vol. ratio of a Fischer-Tropsch wax to a petroleum-based wax-contg. oil in the feed material is pref. (5:95)-(20:80). The hydro-treatment comprises the hydrocracking of the feed material at the hydrocracking stage. The hydrocracking can be performed pref. at 350-400°C under a pressure of 120-160 bar (g) under a hydrogen partial pressure of 100-175 bar (g) at a hydrogen to liquid ratio of 200-2,000/1 mn3 at a liquid hourly space velocity of 0.2-1 h-1. The recovery of the wax-contg. product comprises the distillation of a series of hydrogenation products at the distillation step to obtain the wax-contg. product as the bottom fraction.
