To obtain a woody decorative board which has an appearance close to natural wood and good water resistance.
A decorative base board is manufactured by a process in which a thin-walled medium specific gravity fiber board 2 in which the surface and the back are formed to be a low density layer 2a and a high density layer 2b respectively is laminated on a woody substrate 1 such as plywood with the low density layer side directed to the surface. A decorative sheet 3 of a synthetic resin film on which a grain pattern is printed is laminated on the base board and subjected to embossing along the grain pattern. In this process, the low density layer 2a of the fiber board 2 is well adapted to the embossing so that sharp, deep embossing can be performed without breaking the decorative sheet 3. After that, the embossed part 4 is stained to form a beautiful conduit pattern along the grain pattern.
