Abstract:

PURPOSE: To obtain a zirconoxane polymer, having good stringiness and stability of nongelling for a long period and useful as a precursor, etc., of inorganic fibers, coatings, adhesives, etc., by reacting zirconium oxychloride with a chelating reagent and an amine compound in a solvent.
CONSTITUTION: Zirconium oxychloride octahydrate is dissolved in methanol and a solution prepared by mixing a chelating reagent (e.g. ethyl acetoacetate) with methanol is added to stir the resultant solution. A solution obtained by mixing an amine compound (e.g. triethylamine) with methanol is then dropped into the prepared solution at 0-5°C under stirring conditions. The obtained mixture solution is stirred at ambient temperature for 2hr and the methanol which is a solvent is then distilled away. Tetrahydrofuran is subsequently added to precipitate an amine hydrochloride. The formed precipitate is removed by filtration and the filtrate is concentrated under reduced pressure to prepare a solution of a highly viscous zirconoxane polymer, which is then added into hexane and precipitated. The resultant precipitate is subsequently separated by filtration and dried to afford the zirconoxane polymer useful as a precursor, etc., of inorganic continuous fiber, inorganic coatings, inorganic adhesives, inorganic binders, etc.
