PURPOSE: To adopt a method agreeing with the consideration of a human being to reduce the manhour of the development of programs and whole maintenance by directly and interactively setting the level of an outline on a processing flow chart.
CONSTITUTION: The level of the outline of program structure is interactively set by using a level setting means 12, and the outline of program structure is displayed by the processing flow chart in the level of the outline which has been interactively set. The processing flow chart in which the outline of program structure is displayed is interactively edited in the level of the outline by using an outline processing flow chart generation means 14 which has been interactively set. Consequently, a method which is to stepwise proceed understanding from the outline to detail by dividing the whole program into several parts and which agrees with the consideration of a human being can be adopted. Thus, the manhour can be reduced when the understanding of the program is required for program development and whole maintenance.
