A system includes: a recording management 13a for, when a predetermined operation is performed, acquiring the residual recordable capacity of a recorder, an average recording bit rate for each recording mode, the recording time of a program registered for reservation in a recorder and the recording mode, calculating necessary recording capacity for each reservation-registered program, comparing the sum of the necessary recording capacity of the reservation-registered program with the residual recordable capacity of the recorder and, if the whole sum of the necessary recording capacity is less than the residual recordable capacity, continuing the predetermined operation; a display unit for, when the whole sum of the necessary recording capacity is not less than the residual recordable capacity, displaying a first option for stopping the recording together with a message indicating shortage of the residual recordable capacity of the recording section, a second option for editing or deleting registered reservation, and a third option for continuing the recording; and a key input acceptor for selectively operating the first-third options. The system urges the user to take actions.
