PURPOSE: To reduce the load on a processor to increase the response operation speed of a programmable controller by using an intelligent interface circuit in the processor module of the controller to perform the preprocessing of data from an input/output module.
CONSTITUTION: A processor module 20 is composed of an external communication line network interface 76, a system memory 36, processor sections 21, 60, and 70 for control program execution, and an I/O interface 38 which processes data exchange with other modules. This I/O interface has a circuit which performs preprocessing of data from a defined input module 18 and release processor sections from a task. Various information related to preprocessing, data bit to check the logical level transaction, the frequency of occurrence in designated logical level transition are stored in a shared memory.
