To provide a projection display apparatus configured to be suitable for actual use by automatically issuing a warning before laser light is emitted, when the emission of laser light is required, thereby urging a user to take precautions in advance and enhancing safety; and to provide a control method of the projection display apparatus.
In the projection display apparatus, laser light which is generated from laser light-generating elements (25 to 27) is light-modulated based on an image signal and the light-modulated laser light is scanned on a screen (33) by controlling a scanning element (32) which can control a light reflection angle based on the image signal. The projection display apparatus includes warning modules (34c to 34f, 35, 36 and 37) which warn that laser light will be emitted from this time when the laser light generating elements (25 to 27) are required to generate laser light, and a control module (34) which causes the laser light-generating elements (25 to 27) to generate laser light having a preset prescribed output power in a state where the warning has been made.
