PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To decrease damage by unnecessary beams passing through a projection optical system in a projector having a short focal point.SOLUTION: A projector 1 enlarges and projects image light generated by an image generating part 3 by a projection optical system 4, and moves an incident position of the image light to the projection optical system 4 by a lens shift mechanism 5. The projection optical system 4 images an intermediate image R at the middle of an optical path. A light-shielding mask 30 is provided at an imaging position P of the intermediate image R. A light-shielding region 31 by the light-shielding mask 30 includes a region not overlapping with the intermediate image R within an effective imaging region R0 at the imaging position P of the intermediate image. For example, the light-shielding region 31 is a region of an opposite side to a side where the intermediate image R is shifted out of the circular effective imaging region R0.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 3
