PURPOSE: To obtan a reproduced picture with a good contrast by a method wherein phototransmittivity of a panel skirt part or of a funnel part is made lower by not less than 10% than the phototransmittivity of the panel to sharply check the light getting in from around the panel to lower the contrast of the reproduced picture.
CONSTITUTION: A panel part 1a is made of clear glass having transmittivity of about 86% (provided that thickness is 10.16mm) same as in the case of existing projection tube, while the panel skirt part 2a having low transmittivity relating to this invention is made of taint glass of about 55% transmittivity and a funnel part 4 is the same as the existing one. The phototransmittivity of glass is usually regulated by an added quantity of nickel or chrome. The light, which comes around into the panel part 1a through the panel skirt 2a, is largely absorbed inside of the panel skirt 2a and sharply weakened than before thus to improve the contrast by so much. The influence of outdoor daylight is also weakened thus improving the contrast. Further in other examples, the phototransmittivity is lowered in an area of funnel part 7 at least not less than 10mm away from a welded spot.
