Abstract:
PURPOSE:To make a video display of high quality with high brightness by uniformly lighting a light valve with efficiency and efficiently transmitting the illumination luminous flux to a projection lens. CONSTITUTION:A reflecting mirror 20 is in a shape formed by rotating part of an elliptic curve which has a 1st focus 22 on the optical axis 12 and a 2nd focus at an end point of the light valve 81 around the optical axis 12. A light source 10 is placed in contact with the 1st focus 22 and luminous flux which is reflected by the reflecting mirror 20 is all entered into the circle circumscribed with the light valve 81. A condenser lens 80 deflects luminous flux which is made incident on the end part of the light valve 81 toward the center part of an entrance pupil 82.
