Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a projection type image display device and a projection optical systems, which are able to perform large-screen display with an easy, small and inexpensive configuration even when applied for super-wide angle.SOLUTION: The projection type image display device includes: a light source; an illumination optical system; and a projection optical system which has a first optical system with a positive refractive power and a second optical system with a curved reflection surface. The first optical system is composed of a common optical axis at which all optical components have rotational symmetry planes. The plurality of optical components composing the first optical system has: a variable power function of performing variable power by moving along a direction substantially parallel to the optical axis; and a screen shift function 1 of moving a secondary image plane by movement to a substantially vertical direction from the optical axis of at least one optical component composing the first optical system or of one group composed of the plurality of optical components. The screen shift function 1 has, in any variable power position from an enlargement side to a reduction side by the variable power function, one or more variable power positions in which a position moved to the substantially vertical direction from the optical axis and not present on the optical axis is an initial position.
