Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a projection-type image display device having a two-plate constitution of reflective display elements capable of displaying bright images with a simple configuration.SOLUTION: Disclosed projection-type image display device includes: a color separation mirror for separating a beam of light emitted from a light source unit into a first color light and a second color light; a first light modulation element for modulating the first color light; a second light modulation element for modulating the second color light; a color synthesis prism unit that synthesizes the first color light which is modulated by the first light modulation element and the second color light which is modulated by the second light modulation element; and a projection unit that projects synthetic light output from the color synthesis prism unit. The color synthesis prism unit is constituted of four prisms and has two air gap planes for total reflection or transmission depending on the incidence angle of the light.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 3
