PURPOSE: To reduce the horizontal trapezoidal distortion without employing a distortion correcting circuit, by moving the electron beam horizontally bu predetermined distance while deflecting said electron beam in the horizontal and vertical directions asymmetrically through a deflection yoke.
CONSTITUTION: The electron beam 13 projected from an electron gun 9 is moved to the direction (A) by means of a beam bender 10 located between a deflection yoke 7 and an electron gun 9 to produce an electron beam 13a shifted by the distance (dc) from the center (O) of a phosphor face 11. While the horizontal deflection field 16 produced by the horizontal deflection coil 15 of the yoke coil 7 will be a pincushion shape and the vertical deflection coil 18 produced from a vertical deflection coil 17 will be a barrel shape. Consequently the electron beam 13b in the direction (A) will pass the position where the horizontal and the vertical deflection field are strong thereby deflected considerably. When projecting the distorted picture image on the phosphor face 11, the distortion of the picture image is cancelled thereby the horizontal trapezoidal distortion can be reduced without employing a distortion correcting circuit.
