PURPOSE: To provide possibility of changing over between the three-dimensional image display and the two-dimensional and prevent degradation of the quality of a displayed image in the case of two-dimensional image display.
CONSTITUTION: A projection type three-dimensional image display device includes a screen mechanism 7 on which the first and the second picture element image are formed with an image light cast from the first and the second projector 6a, 6b, wherein the screen mechanism 7 is equipped with a lenticular screen 9 composed of the first lenticular parts 13a and the second lenticular parts 13b. Each of the first parts 13a separates spectrally the first and the second picture element image into the picture element light for the left eye and the one for the right eye while each of the second parts 13b does not separate them any spectrally, and the two types of parts 13a, 13b are formed alternately over the vertical direction. In case a three-dimensional image is displayed on this screen 9, the first and the second picture element image is formed on the backs of the first parts 13a, and in case a two-dimensional image is displayed, the first and the second picture element image are formed on the backs of the second parts 13b.
