Abstract:

To provide a projection type video display apparatus excelling in user-friendliness, of which installation position is easily changed (which is improved in the degree of freedom in terms of installation position) without causing distortion or the like on a projected video.

In a projection type video display apparatus equipped with an enlarging and projecting optical unit which enlarges and projects light from a light source unit to a display part, the enlarging and projecting optical unit is equipped with a projection lens for enlarging and projecting an image of a video display element and a reflection mirror equipped with a reflection surface consisting of a free curved surface. The video display element has a display surface larger than the display part when its whole is projected to be displayed on the display part through the enlarging and projecting optical unit, and a video on the display surface of the video display element can move on the display surface of the video display element, so as to selectively project and display a portion fit to the display part when it is projected and displayed on the display part through the enlarging and projecting optical unit. Therefore, the installation position of the projection type video display apparatus is movable relative to the display part.
