To provide a projector capable of preventing the power supply from being automatically turned OFF again in a case the power supply has been turned OFF by a sleep mode.
A storage section 21 has a sleep mode flag 21a setting a sleep mode that turns OFF a light source 11 in a case where a signal detector 5 has not detected an image signal for a first time period (step S105:N). In a case where the signal detector 5 has not detected the image signal for the first time period under a state that the sleep mode flag 21a has been set (step S108:N), a controller 20 turns OFF the light source 11 and subsequently detects power supply turning ON operation by an input operation section before a second time period elapses (step S111:Y). After turning ON the light source 11 again, a projector clears the sleep mode flag 21a while displaying a warning screen on an image projecting section 10 (step S113).
