A projector 1 includes a noise detection unit (noise detection circuit 60) for detecting noise inputted to the projector 1, a noise detection frequency storage unit (EEPROM 70) for storing a noise detection frequency detected by the noise detection unit, a control unit (CPU 20, work memory 30, ROM 40, FlashROM 50) for controlling the projector, an abnormality detection unit (watchdog circuit 80) for detecting operation abnormality of the control unit, a comparison unit (CPU 20) for comparing the noise detection frequency stored in the noise detection frequency storage unit with a predetermined noise detection set value in the case that the abnormality detection unit detects the operation abnormality of the control unit, and a restoration unit (CPU 20) for restoring the projector 1 into an activation state in the case that the noise detection frequency is smaller than the predetermined noise detection set value in a comparison result.
