The projector 1 has an optical device 2 and a controller 3. The optical device 2 include: a light source 211; a first light-modulating device 242G that modulates color light of specific wavelength, emitted from the light source 211, according to image information and forms a color image; second light-modulating devices 242R, 242B that modulate color light of specific wavelength, different from that of the first light-modulating device 242G, according to image information and form color images; a light composing optical device that composes the color images and forms an optical image; and a projecting optical system 26 that projects the optical image. The first light-modulating device 242G has resolution higher than that of the second light-modulating devices 242R, 242B. The controller 3 has a plurality of size adjusting means 321, 331, 341 that are provided for corresponding light-modulating devices and output image information to the light-modulating devices 242, the image information being obtained by adjusting, according to the resolution of each light-modulating device 242, the size of an image relating to input image information.
