A projector 1 includes: a light source unit 2 including a first light source and a second light source; a scatterer for scattering light from the light source unit 2; an optical modulator; a condensation optical system that projects a first light flux from the first light source to a first region of the scatterer and projects a second light flux of the second light source to a second region of the scatterer; and an imaging optical system 5 that projects the first scattered light from the first region of the scatterer to a first divided region of the optical modulator and projects the second scattered light from the second region of the scatterer to a second divided region of the optical modulator.
